夏去秋至，在长野经营葡萄酒专卖店的松原辰平（役所広司 饰）百感交集将女儿送入婚姻殿堂。自妻子20年前过世以来，松原尽心抚养女儿长大，为此也曾放弃另一段爱情。而女儿的出嫁，似乎让这个坚强的男人体会到了情感的失落与凄凉。在此之后，他暂时放下手中的工作，前往京都拜访作家老友重 宗周吉（岩松了 饰），也见到了高中时代好友山边孝介（点点 饰）。受山边所托，松原前往夜店调查对方的女儿——也是松原女儿的好友——礼子（中越典子 饰）。礼子自幼暗恋松原，而这位初老的男人心中隐秘的情感似乎也正在复苏…… 本片根据井上晴的原作改编，为CBC开播60周年纪念作品。。"Can't we all just live together?"
