Coming to HBO Max October 18.。梅淑卿为了争取自由恋爱，摆脱封建大家庭，选择与江少文这个穷教师到小镇定居结婚。婚后五个子女在十二年内先后出生，儿女一多，经济便有了困难，终于两人都先后为儿女而过度辛劳，在极度贫困中死去，无法完成父母的责任。然而悲剧还未终结，彼时竟有人肉贩子看中他们的大女儿……。妻子发现丈夫外遇，爱即刻转变为致命恨意。而为了达到目的，两人都将不择手段。。
