海洋冒険小説作家としても有名な谷恒生の原作で、オカルトホラー時代小説『神州魑魅（すだま）変異聞寒月一凍悪霊斬り』のOVA化作品。時は江戸の元禄時代。若き絵草子作者にして華麗な鉄扇技の遣い手・寒月一凍は、江戸で評判の奇術師・黄昏陰斎の演芸を楽しんだ。だがその帰り、一凍は浪人に襲われる女性の窮地を救い、その時に渡された一枚のタロットカードから更なる事件に巻き込まれる。一凍の眼前に広がる、乙女たちの連続神隠し事件の真相とは……。本作の原作は、同じ原作者の時代ホラーアクション『神州魑魅変』からのスピンオフ。正編の方も、本アニメと同じマジックバスによりOVA化されている。こちらの『寒月一凍悪霊斬り』は正編の名脇役・一凍を主役に据えた、オカルト探偵アクションもの。。The head of a secret organization assembles a crew to steal back artwork plundered by Nazis during World War II.。A young woman who has been separated from her daughter works one odd job after another while battling a brain disorder whose name she does not know, but which deforms her perception of time and reality.
