As he regains his strength, Frank risks his life to bring the family togeth...。第二次国内革命战争期间，国民革命军第二十一军吉鸿昌（达奇饰）部，奉命剿共。近日士兵开小差现象严重增加，吉鸿昌百思不得其解。在一次演兵场上审问叛逃原因时，曾经忠心耿耿的老部下（张冲霄饰）道出原委，那就是不想再剿共。吉鸿昌闻言，思虑良久，他决定乔装进入苏区考察。苏区党代表周光远（左夫饰）从吉鸿昌坐姿上识破他军人身份，并与他进行推心置腹地讨论，同时亮明共产党的政治主张，吉鸿昌听罢茅塞顿开。一二八事变爆发后，被蒋逼出国门考察的吉鸿昌愤然回国抗日，蒋却诱逼他反共，吉鸿昌怒不可遏，毅然加入共产党。不久，吉鸿昌因伤被捕，诱降不成，蒋介石向他伸出了魔爪...... 本片获第三届百花奖最佳影片、最佳编剧奖。。
