《陈三两》描写才女李素萍，因其父中了进士不交贿金不给官而活活气死，她被迫卖身葬父，并将一半卖身银赠给胞弟李凤鸣读书成才；从此她身落妓院，又以“作文一篇，白银三两”，更名陈三两，卖文不卖身……。这部电影带有浓厚的新现实主义风格，基本上与费里尼中后期的神采飞扬不一样，采用了纪实手法来讲述一个爱情故事，结构简单，多用长镜头。片中的内容与战后意大利贫瘠的社会现实相吻合。本片也是费里尼首次与自己的妻子玛西娜合作。乡下姑娘莉莉加入一家剧团，她的表演相当成功，不但在观众中大受欢迎，剧团团长契克也暗中爱上了她。由于契克常常醋意大发，剧团惹上了许多麻烦，最终不得不解散收场……。Andrea "Andi" Carson (Alana Austin) is an average teenage girl.
