本片的男主，鬼佛山（魔宗）培养多年的杀手，因善于御剑杀人，被称为“剑”。后遭遇搭档背叛与围剿，被心爱之人斩断手臂，身心俱残的剑开始自暴自弃，直至被女主一家人救下，剑逐渐被感化，并拥有了一个颇具浪漫色彩的名字——剑十二。Framing StoryDr Martin (Robert Powell) arrives at a secluded asylum "for the incurably insane" to be interviewed for a job by the wheelchair-using, authoritarian Dr Lionel Rutherford (Patrick Magee).
